BENTO #120

Bento box for school has been scarce lately. #2 is going out for lunch with her friends and asked to pass her break time bento.

She did, however add that she'd like to have a light bento for after her music class.

This is a two tier box which is like a 'tiffin carrier'. In the left box, is marinated tofu slabs fried in minimal oil. There are some seedless grapes and 3 pieces of water chestnuts.

In the right box, there is alfalfa sprouts and tuna mayo and a silicon cup full of some lightly fried straw mushrooms, carrot bits and angle beans.

The good news is, #2 now fits better into her sister's cream colored dress and quite pleased with the progress of her 'diet'. *Phew! Wipes sweat away*

Pat, I saw this pic of rice stuff squid (I think it's at feisty foodie , not sure). Do you have a recipe somewhere here for that?

I second the request for the marinated tofu, please.
Glad #2's diet plan is working well. Another week to go. I'm getting all excited for her too.

this looks yummy and at the same time, it looks like a "weight-watchers' bento" haha.. a definite one to add to my list of bentos to make :)

allthingspurple, 3lilangels: Marinated tofu recipe was given to me by a girlfriend. It's got no measurements, just agak-agak - some shoyu, dark sauce (hak yau), more sugar and sesame seed oil.

nobu: Something like that but Chinese style. LOL! You are very sharp!

yozo: Thanks! It's a real headache to be limited by all the 'diet' conditions but #2 has lost some weight so I'm still plodding on till the end of this week when she goes off to Korea.

I've asked her to 'ta pau' Kimchi back for me. LOL!

thanks Pat, after marinating, do you fry it or steam it? My guess is to steam it but those looks kind of firm, like fried ?

the tuna mayo on the alfafa, is that from can? or homemade?

allthingspurple: I use the firm tofu and yes it is lightly fried. Not too much because the sugar will turn black very fast.

elizabeth wong: Yikes! I think I owe you some pictures! Next week ok? I have a camp this week end and I'm blogging in between preparing for the camp! Crazy hours!

Ermm...definitely home made mayo, plus condiments and canned Tuna. I use home made tuna too if I knew how to fish! LOL!

The alfafa plus tuna mayo looks yummy. May I know what is the recipe of the mayo and what other condinents used? Which brand of canned tuna used?

Don't worry about the pics...only when you free.

elizabeth wong: Please check this link for Mayo recipe: http://onabentofrenzy.blogspot.com/2007/08/did-you-know_07.html

I add chopped cucumber gerkins, yellow onions, mustard, pepper and salt with any brand tuna in Olive oil.
